For my 13th birthday present, my mum and aunt took my cousin and I to NYC for the very first time. This was when Abercrombie and Fitch hadn't made their way to Canada so you can imagine how this trip went . . . lot's of A&F visits with the shirtless male models. After just over over a decade, my mum and I made it back!

First stop - Rockefeller Center! This is a must see when you visit NYC. You literally see 360 degrees around the entire city. We happened to go at sunset which was absolutely stunning. Mind you there were a handful of people snapping shots of the glorious view but we were lucky to get a few ourselves.

Each season my mum and I go to gift shows to purchase items for her decor store in Toronto. We have always dreamed about going to the NYC Gift Show and this year it finally happened!

One of the best things about New York is the food!

closing the door on winter

Hey there bloggers, sorry I've been so MIA. Lot's has been going on in my life lately so I sadly had to step away from the blogging world. I plan on returning with a little more lifestyle posts and day to day outings. Please make note that I have changed the URL from www.sararussellinteriors.com to www.sararussell.ca.

To the Canadians out there, let's all take a deep breath and pat ourselves on the back because we lasted through the longest winter ever. Don't get me wrong, I love a pretty snowfall and being able to enjoy the great white north but this year was absolutely ridiculous!

Below are a few scenes of the end of winter 

One of my favourite times of the ski season is right at the very end when spring has arrived. It's so fun to hit the hills with only a light jacket or sweater on! Osler always sets up a BBQ outside as a little celebration to a great season. We broke a club record by staying open until after Easter!

There's dad doing a little cabin maintenance! We had a little leak into the front room and it all froze. It was literally a skating rink and we couldn't open the front door! Pulled out the hair dryer and all was fine.

There have been a pair of weathered vintage skis outside forever which I think were my uncles at one point in time. What do you think, can we manage another season on these bad boys?

Canada has been hit with the longest winter ever. Each day I layer in whatever is going to keep me warm but it's getting a little tiring. Hurry up summer and bring on the warm weather!

snowy winter adventures

We have had one of the snowiest (that's a word right?) winters ever! From the beginning of December up until now, the ground has been covered in white snow. My friends and I were able to take advantage of this snow. We spent the day trekking in our snowshoes soaking in the winter white wonderland up here in Canada.

So happy I was able to spend the day with my cousin Rebecca - She has been quite the world traveller spending the past year in school abroad. It was nice spending a winter day with you!

My Grandparents were very fond of travelling so they wanted to mimic their favourite places at our chalet. There are about 14 massive Mexican tin masks all over the walls and gorgeous area rugs. It's our little "Spanish Oasis".

Winter is still here but luckily the snow has been dwindling away. This time of year is beautiful because the days are getting slightly longer, there are still twinkling lights in the trees and there is only a dusting of snow on the ground. Damsel in Dior is a regular read of mine but she always posts about her style in a sunny part of the world. She recently visited NYC and totally rocked this winter look.

winter classic :: leafs vs red wings

Growing up in Canada means you are a hockey fan. No matter what. It's the passion that unites us all. When I had the chance to go to the 2014 Winter Classic game, I jumped on it. Me along with a few friends drove the treacherous drive along the 401 to Ann Arbour, Michigan to see the Toronto Maple Leafs play against the Detroit Red Wings at The Big House. If you have never been to The Big House before, I strongly suggest you make the trip for a College football game. Built in 1927, this stadium holds 109,901 people! We hit a record high for largest attendance in hockey history with 105,491 dedicated fans and 8.2 million television viewers in the US and Canada.

This truly was the most picture perfect hockey game of all time.

Something to keep in mind if you plan on visiting Ann Arbour, their taxi's are unique to the city. What does that mean? Each cab is individually owned and run, so finding a cab was pretty difficult. Given that there were 100,000 in a town of 110,000, they did a pretty good job at getting people to where they needed to be.

Guess what . . . The Leafs won 3-2 in a shootout!

The walk from The Big House to downtown was a sea of red and blue jerseys. It was a neat atmosphere because although there were no stand out people that were loud about winning, everyone was walking together as though they knew each other and truly living this great moment. 

Finding a place to have a few beers and dinner downtown was horrendous - every bar and restaurant was packed with at least a 2 hour waiting list. We ventured down one of the main streets and came across this German bar called Heidelberg. After visiting Germany this past summer (view post here), I can say that this place did a spot on job at recreating that German feel!

We sat in the basement amongst a handful of Toronto fans which was pretty awesome. A few of the boys got a 'das boot' which is either a litre or two of beer in a glass shaped liked a boot. To keep with German tradition, you are not allowed to place 'das boot' on the table until your full beer is finished. I was pretty proud that they boys almost made it to the end without putting their beers down!

If you are in the area and happen to pop into this spot, make sure you ask for Vincenté. He literally ran the entire basement bar and was top drawer. Not only was he a rockstar but he got to know our table and truly helped make this historic night in hockey history memorable.

Happy birthday to my boyfriend Nathan! So proud of you with all that you have accomplished over the past few years and the man that you are today. Thank you for always supporting me and helping me follow my dreams.
