valentine's day doughnut party

February can be a grinding month if you live up in the great white north because it's been cold for awhile now and people are getting a little sick of it. The upside is that Valentine's Day is next week. You know love is in the air and spring is right around the corner.

Valentine's Day can come with many expectations which makes the whole holiday not that fun sometimes. We all know what the typical evening consists of - going out for a pre fix dinner at $100 a pop and having some ordinary love-enfused dish that you will probably hate. Why not stay in and have a doughnut party with your true love? Let's think about how cute this would be for a second - you get to hang out at home, you can bake whatever cute dish you like and get to use your fun and colourful china!

jacaranda tree | valentine's day gifts

The Jacaranda Tree always has their store decked out for every season. While walking through their doors earlier this week, my eyes were amazed by all of the lovely and charming gift ideas for Valentine's day! Below are some of my favourites . . .

Goldleaf  perfumed bubble bath by Thymes is my favourite! This is always a treat after a long day.

The Jacaranda Tree just got in a new line of candy containers in the top left image.
They look so adorable with the vintage teacups, ice cream bowls and cake books!

Emerald is the colour of the year! Seriously coveting that emerald and diamond necklace!

I keep seeing statement broaches on jackets and blazers.
These re-created vintage brooches are so decadent!

Sparkle, sparkle + more sparkle!

style at home | valentine's day picks

Tomorrow is the day and I have a few gift ideas from Elaine Song from Style at Home! Below are some of my favourites for your family and loved ones.

My family always gets really into greeting cards. We usually sway towards the humorous ones but on Valentine's Day, our favourite are the cute and pretty.

Delicious marshmallow and chocolate goodness

I discovered sea salt caramels a few Christmas's ago when I got a box in my stocking.
I would have to the their biggest fan - absolutely yum!

These bowls are so precious! This red is so vibrants and would totally use these throughout the year.

I have been tempted a few times to get this pillow case set. I just think it's too cute for words!

DIY valentine's scrabble

I surprised my boyfriend Nathan on Valentine's Day with this scrabble picture.  Something so simple as this can really put a smile on your Valentine's face!

[Image taken by Sara Russell Interiors]

What you will need:
 - Scrabble Letters
 - A glue gun
 - A picture frame

Instructions
I called a gamming manufacturer and asked for 9 scrabble letters and it was delivered within 2 weeks and for free!  Make sure you measure the size of all the letters together on a piece of paper to know what size picture frame you will need.  Now glue gun the letters down, wait at least an hour to dry, wrap and give to your Valentine!

DIY: glitter love banner

Valentine's Day is just around the corner . . . make a banner for your special someone to let them know how you feel. Dazzle it up with some sparkle xo

You will need . . .
Glitter, paper, a printer, a glue gun, glue, scissors and ribbon or thread

[Step one]
Print the words you wish to be on your banner (above is arial font, size 100 pt) and cut them out

[Step two]
Spread a fair amount of glue on each letter then sprinkle glitter

[Step three]
Let the letter dry then arrange with their backs up and backwards. Lay out your desired length of ribbon.

[Step four]
Put a dot of glue from a glue gun on the top of each letter. Make sure the space between each letter is the same.
