colourful easter brunch

Easter is one of my favourite times of the year. Spring has just begun and the flowers have almost sprung!

My family is a big fan of Easter brunch so below are some ideas on how to make your Easter table vibrant! The key ingredient to making an inviting table is colour so use it where ever you can. I always adore the mixture of vintage and new china and glassware. Our table is mixed with items my mom and I have found at antique markets and items that were passed down from generation to generation. It is always fun to reflect on these fond memories!

Use different textures, shapes and colour with food and beverages and be sure to scatter them around the table. Don't worry about keeping food with food and drinks with drinks - it's more interesting when there isn't a pattern!

See this post featured at Style at Home and see some other great blogger Easter ideas!

Since it's Easter, fill the table with eggs!

Place a bundle of them on a decorative paper napkin
(I purchased all of mine from the Jacaranda Tree on Mt. Pleasant in Toronto) in a chunky glass bowl.

At each place setting is a vintage liquor glass and a few stacked plates adding a nice height to each place!

masculine monday | calgary home

This Calgary home featured in the October 2012 issue of Style at Home is a masculine one. The family has kept to whites, woods and blacks as their base colour palette for every room. This has given them lots of ways to play around with patterns, shapes and accessories.

A whole chalkboard wall in the dining room? Love it!

This small space really has a big feel with a neutral colour palette, playful patterns and friendly arrangement of picture frames used as an accent wall.

style at home ikea kitchen makeover

Erin McLaughlin, editor in chief of Style at Home Magazine, had her kitchen re-vamped head to toe in IKEA. Breath easy in this newly renovated serene kitchen of while marble, stainless steel appliances,  a charming eating area and a modern fireplace with comfy seating. IKEA has truly been able to catch up to their competitors and produce products which look amazing without breaking the bank.

The before.

I love how Erin uses silver as her everyday cutlery!

style at home | valentine's day picks

Tomorrow is the day and I have a few gift ideas from Elaine Song from Style at Home! Below are some of my favourites for your family and loved ones.

My family always gets really into greeting cards. We usually sway towards the humorous ones but on Valentine's Day, our favourite are the cute and pretty.

Delicious marshmallow and chocolate goodness

I discovered sea salt caramels a few Christmas's ago when I got a box in my stocking.
I would have to the their biggest fan - absolutely yum!

These bowls are so precious! This red is so vibrants and would totally use these throughout the year.

I have been tempted a few times to get this pillow case set. I just think it's too cute for words!

style at home | office

Below is a peak inside Style at Home, Catherine Sheppard's office. She has done wonders creating a relaxing and comforting space that makes you feel right at home with playful dinosaurs and beautifully scented candles as accents. My favourite item is the letterboard - it is an exceptional and original statement piece which constantly changes with wonderful ideas!

If you are in the market for a custom letter board, I recommend Julia West Home.
With their large variety of fabrics and ribbons, the possibilities are endless!

DIY chalkboard cheese platter

Impress your friends with a low budget, high style, DIY cheese platter. A simple and fun way to identify the cheeses you are serving at your next soiree . . .  pair with your favourite wine.

View this chalkboard cheese platter on the Style at Home website here along with other DIY bloggers!

You will need:
 - board (I used a scrap piece of wood from Home Depot)
 - paint brush
 - chalkboard paint (I put a piece of parchment paper beneath each piece of cheese)
 - felt pads (to place under board to protect surface)

[Step one]
I went to Home Depot and kindly asked for a scrap piece of wood which they gave me :)

[Step two]
Paint on a layer of primer paint to seal the wood. (I chose to use a tinted purple from a pervious project that I had some left over primer from).

[Step three]
Wait a few hours for the primer to dry.

[Step four]
Paint two layers of chalkboard paint leaving an hour minimum of drying time between layers.

[Step five]
Gently rub a piece of chalk on its side over the entire surface then rub off with a dry cloth (this preps the chalkboard surface from future permanent chalk mark damage).
