the perfect white home

No matter what, white paint is always a great choice. You know you will never get sick of it, you can dress it up or down and it always makes your home feel bright, airy and open. This past January was the House and Home trends issue where they tell you whats going to be hot for the year. I spy a few  trends in this home! Can you spot any?

Claw foot tub - oh how I love thee.

This room was most likely a bedroom given the size and has flawlessly been transformed into a walk-in closet. Pretty perfect right?

At home we have an enormous collaboration of pictures from over the years all up the wall on the main staircase. I have been eager to create another one somewhere of prints just like the one below.

modern scandinavian style

There is something about Scandinavian style that is so calming and yet edgy. They manage to create a neutral space with pops of excitement. This home has just that. I mean have you checked out that dining room table and chandelier below?! I would be too nervous to have a dinner party thinking that something might happen to my beautiful table. Is it new? Is it mid-century? It's everything rolled into one. 

An all marble bathroom? Yes please! You can splish splash all over the place without a worry.

masculine monday | calgary home

This Calgary home featured in the October 2012 issue of Style at Home is a masculine one. The family has kept to whites, woods and blacks as their base colour palette for every room. This has given them lots of ways to play around with patterns, shapes and accessories. 

A whole chalkboard wall in the dining room? Love it!

This small space really has a big feel with a neutral colour palette, playful patterns and friendly arrangement of picture frames used as an accent wall.

Smith restaurant is located in Toronto on Church street and is a stunningly eclectic place with lots of vintage findings. Designed by Commute Home, they have made this restaurant into a homely place with many picture frames, a fireplace and a Persian rug for an added touch of comfort.

DIY maps

What a cheap and cheerful way to decorate a wall! Make it your own with a map of your favourite vacation spot, where your family is from or a place you've always wanted to travel to.

Black IKEA frame $4.99

Maps are easily accessible at trading posts, gas stations, libraries, bookstores etc. 

Find a spot on the map which you love and have it blown up to be extra large. 

Go to a copy place and have them cut it to fit many frames.

a compilation of prints

I love a compilation of framed prints. The elegant gold leaf chandelier is the perfect size and the ghost chair nicely blends into the space. There is always a vase of fresh flowers on my desk - a wise person once said that seeing flowers at the start of your day will keep you smiling all day.

Open kitchen shelving is a personal favourite of mine. Show off your plates, glasses, bowls and platters and add a little drama...

Cupboards can overtime become dated, open shelving allows for a constant updated look. I really like the simple pencil drawings in the different wooden frames - never seen this on kitchen shelving before!
